AUDIENCE : COOPERATION CAMEROON – UNITED KINGDOM
On Friday, 18 September 2026, H.E. Felix MBAYU, Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, received in audience, upon his request, H.E. Matt Woods, British High Commissioner to Cameroon, who was accompanied by Ms. Lisa Jennians, Head of the Political Affairs Section.
The Minister Delegate was assisted by the Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations, as well as senior officials responsible for monitoring bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Discussions between the two diplomats focused on four key issues, namely:
- Cameroon’s recent Non-Deal Roadshow, organised by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) in London, from 9 to 10 September 2026;
- The United Kingdom’s request for Cameroon’s support for two British candidates seeking election to positions within two United Nations specialised institutions, namely the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU);
- The UK Government’s recent foreign policy announcement on Israel and Gaza; and
- Preparations for this year’s Annual Remembrance Service, traditionally commemorated in November at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at the Limbe Botanical Gardens.
The discussions provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on these matters of mutual interest and to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening Cameroon–UK relations. The exchanges further underscored the solid foundations of the bilateral partnership, as well as the growing dynamism of cooperation between the two countries in multilateral fora, including within the Commonwealth.
Ultimately, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close consultations and working together to further consolidate and give renewed impetus to this historic, longstanding and mutually beneficial partnership.
