CAMEROON PARTICIPATES IN THE GLASGOW 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games officially began on the evening of 23 July 2026 with a spectacular opening ceremony at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro. Athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories took part in the colourful Parade of Nations, celebrating the values of friendship, unity, and sportsmanship.
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, H.E. Felix Mbayu, led Cameroon’s delegation to the Games. At the opening ceremony, our nation’s athletes proudly marched alongside those of the other Commonwealth member states and territories, marking the country’s participation in this edition of the Commonwealth Games.
The ceremony celebrated Scotland’s rich cultural heritage through vibrant artistic performances, live music, and impressive visual displays. A highlight of the evening was the arrival of His Majesty King Charles III, Head of the Commonwealth, accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Camilla, after which the King officially declared the Games open.
It should be noted that each of the competing countries handed over its customised baton, symbolising the end of the King’s Baton Relay, launched in July 2026 as a precursor to the Games.
Cameroon is represented in five disciplines: Athletics, Judo, Para Athletics, Para Powerlifting, and Weightlifting. The nation’s athletes will be aiming to build on the country’s strong Commonwealth Games tradition by delivering commendable performances and competing for medals throughout the competition.
