CAMEROON – MAURITANIA
On Thursday, 18 June 2026, H.E. MOHAMED SALEM OULD MERZOUG, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. MBELLA MBELLA, Minister of External Relations.
The purpose of this meeting was to present Mauritania's candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries was highlighted.
Steps will be taken to strengthen these relations, particularly in the areas of economic and trade exchanges, but also through the establishment of a political consultation mechanism, a Joint Commission, a bilateral legal background, and cooperation within the framework of the AfCFTA.
Regarding the consolidation of bilateral relations, the Mauritanian top diplomat indicated that his country is considering opening a Mauritanian resident embassy in Cameroon.
